Construction work is ongoing to replace the old footbridge to the reserve. An alternative route is available, but the Heron's Wing and Peter Scott hides will be closed until the work is complete. We apologise for any inconvenience.

Highlights - Long-Billed Dowitcher, Moths, Kingfisher, Shoveler and Nuthatch.

Saline and Freshwater Lagoon

We have been lucky enough to have a long-billed dowitcher showing nicely all week. The north american wader moves between the dafen scrapes, freshwater and saline lagoon at high tide. Numbers of black-tailed godwit, redshank and greenshank are still rising and a few whimbrel and knot have been in amongst them too. Lots of shoveler have been on the freshwater lagoon and dafen scrapes this week. Lapwing numbers have also been reaching fifty on the dafen scrapes.

Millennium Wetlands

A juvenile kingfisher has been seen fishing on deep water lake very regularly, in particular on the perches outside the two hides in the morning. It's nice to see the great crested grebe chick growing up and becoming independent. A nuthatch, which are not too common on site, was spotted on the reserve. A moth survey recorded over thirty species, including black arches, drinker, ruby tiger, gold-spot and multiple waves, wainscotts and underwings.
