Construction work is ongoing to replace the old footbridge to the reserve. An alternative route is available, but the Heron's Wing and Peter Scott hides will be closed until the work is complete. We apologise for any inconvenience.

Millennium Wetlands

There are lots of updates from the breeding species on the reserve this week. The great crested grebes seem to be sitting on their nest now, there are lots of black -headed gull chicks on the stone islands and there are three new lapwing nests. A treecreeper is building a nest above the door of the herons wing hide, just like last year. Although its hard to keep track, we think there might be up to four sets of pochard ducklings which is great news for this threatened species. During a reptile survey, common lizards, slow worms and one rather large grass snake were recorded. It's nice to see some green finches on the reserve and hear them singing. We think the Savi's warbler might have stuck around even despite this horrible weather.

Saline and Freshwater Lagoon

There have been lots of male shoveler and pochard showing this week and hopefully some of them may have nested with females, that we unfortunately cant see. The boardwalk hide offers great views of the nesting black-headed gulls and the swallows, house and sand martins also fly up close when feeding on the freshwater lagoon.
