Recent Sightings 23th-29th October

Spoonbill, Wigeon, Peregrine, Water Rail, Redwing, Otter

Saline lagoon

A flock of 10 Spoonbills continue to be seen reliably in the saline lagoon. Wigeon have been seen in high numbers, with sightings of up to 100 individuals. Peregrine are also often seen soaring over the salt marshes.


Millennium wetlands

Water rail calls can be heard from the site's reed beds. Goldfinch frequent the reserve, alongside species of tit, which form roving gangs. Redwing numbers are increasing as the season progresses, their signature calls are now very commonly heard at dusk.

A young otter has been spotted early in the morning, while soprano and pipistrelle bats are seen commonly at later hours of the day. Several toads have been seen where the reed bed has had its' annual cut. The last of the common darters can be seen flying around the reserve paths.
