Wildlife Sightings for 3rd September 2024

Migrant Spotted Flycatcher, Willow Warbler, Chiffchaff and Blackcap in the scrublands.

2 Common Sandpiper - main lake

1 Green Sandpiper - wader scrape

5 Little Egret - wader scrape

1 Wigeon - main lake

1 Spotted Flycatcher - sheltered lagoon (south-side footpath)

15 Chiffchaff - south route, wildside

4 Blackcap - south route, sheltered lagoon

4 Willow Warbler - south route, sheltered lagoon

1 Kingfisher - sheltered lagoon

Cetti's Warblers and Reed Warblers can be found in the reedbed and any other reed fringes. Look for Sedge Warblers at the scrubby edges of the marsh, reservoir lagoon and main lake. Blackcaps and Chiffchaffs are active in the scrublands of wildside, south route and sheltered lagoon.

Dragonflies: (early September survey) Southern Hawker, Migrant Hawker, Ruddy Darter, Common Darter, Small red-eyed Damselfly, Blue-tailed Damselfly, Common Blue Damselfly, Willow Emerald Damselfly. Also the last few Black-tailed Skimmers of the season are on the wing too.

Butterflies: (early September surveys) Large White, Small White, Green-veined White, Speckled Wood, Red Admiral, Large Skipper, Small Copper, Brown Hairstreak, Gatekeeper, Comma.

Flowering plants: Tufted Vetch, Field Scabious, Devil's-bit Scabious, Lesser Centaury, Creeping Thistle, Spear Thistle, Marsh Woundwort, Yellow Bartsia, Yellow Loosestrife, White Water-lily, Yellow Water-lily, Meadow Vetchling, Bristly Ox-tongue, Hawkbit sp., Hawkweed Ox-tongue, Burdock, Sow-thistle, Scentless Mayweed, Pineapple Mayweed, Cut-leaved Cranesbill, Dove's-foot Cranesbill, Nipplewort, Great Willowherb, Monkey-flower, Yarrow, Wild Carrot, Wild Basil, Bird's-foot Trefoil, Hop Trefoil, Spotted Medick, Cat's Ear, Smooth Hawk's-beard, Ragwort, Groundsel, Coltsfoot, Teasel, Lady's Bedstraw, Hedge Bedstraw, Honeysuckle, Pellitory-of-the-Wall, Water-starwort, Arrowhead, Duck Potato, Selfheal and many more
