Wildlife sightings for w/c 6th July 2020

Oystercatcher, Common Tern, Green Sandpiper, Little Ringed Plover and a Kestrel family all recorded this week

1 Green Sandpiper - scrape

1 Common Sandpiper - main lake

2 Oystercatcher - main lake

1 Little Ringed Plover - scrape

3 Common Tern - main lake, reservoir lagoon

1 Little Egret - marsh, main lake

1 Kingfisher - reedbed

6 Chiffchaff - wildside, sheltered lagoon, wader scrape

4 Kestrel (adults and juveniles) - sheltered lagoon

70+ Sand Martin

1 Wheatear - marsh

10 Swallow - feeding over reservoir lagoon

Dragonflies: (early July) Common Blue Damselfly, Azure Damselfly, Blue-tailed Damselfly, Emperor Dragonfly, Black-tailed Skimmer (see 1st photo below of a female), Brown Hawker (see 2nd photo below), Willow Emerald Damselfly.



Flowering plants: Meadow Rue, Southern Marsh Orchid, Pyramidal Orchid, Bee Orchid, Tufted Vetch, Hemlock Water-dropwort, Meadow Vetchling, Yellow Bartsia, Bird's-foot Trefoil, Coral-root, Common Vetch, Grass Vetchling, Ox-eye Daisy, Rough Hawkbit, Water Plantain, White Water Lily, Fringed Water Lily, Water Forget-me-not, Branched Bur-reed, Greater Pond Sedge, Pendulous Sedge, Tussock Sedge, Marsh Woundwort, Purple Loosestrife, Common Fleabane, Flowering Rush, Knapweed, Goat's Beard, Monkey-flower, Betony, Agrimony and Mouse-ear Hawkweed.

Reptiles: Common Lizard juv (wildside).

Butterflies and other insects: (early July) Marbled White (see photo below), Small Tortoishell, Red Admiral, Comma, Speckled Wood, Small White, Common Blue, Peacock, Hoverfly sp Volucella zonaria, Hummingbird Hawkmoth, Common Field Grasshopper, Meadow Grasshopper, Long-winged Cone-head, Dark bush Cricket.
