40th Anniversary Photograph Competition Winners Announced
WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre has revealed the winners of the 40th Anniversary Photograph competition, with each winner being awarded state of the art camera equipment courtesy of London Camera Exchange.
The photography competition was launched at WWT Martin Mere in March to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the wetland centre opening. Since then the competition has received 396 entries to showcase the brilliant and varied wildlife on display at WWT Martin Mere.
In the adult competition Robert Falcon from Bootle won first prize with his picture of a Goldeneye on a stunning yellow stretch of water.
Mr Falcon said: “I was just at the right place at the right time, everything was in the right place with the light catching the water with the Goldeneye, and I just got lucky on the day.”
Whereas in the junior competition 14 year old Joel Tragen from Manchester won first prize with his picture of two Mandarin ducks.
There were also honourable mentions to Maggie Henfield from Ramsbottom in the adult’s category for her picture of a chick dancing through the daises at Martin Mere.
Also in the juniors section for Elliot Montieth’s picture of two flamingos embracing to form a heart shape.
Mrs Henfield said: “She said: “No matter how many times you come, there’s always something new at Martin Mere, when I wake up in the morning my default is usually Should I go to Martin Mere today?”
The competition, judged by Iain Lynn, Head of Multimedia Imaging at Johnstone Press said that the decisions were very tough and that “Both categories were both a tough call, each picture being excellent in their own rights.”
