Duckling nursery opens its doors every weekend at WWT Martin Mere
Families can enjoy seeing the cute sight of ducklings in the duckling nursery every weekend at WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre.
Every weekend in June and up to 19 July come to WWT Martin Mere to visit our duckling nursery between 12 noon and 3pm and learn all about the egg to duckling process. Ducklings that are over two weeks old are kept in the nursery with a heat lamp, pond and food to ensure that they are safe and warm. As you walk around the nursery you can talk to staff, read information about these adorable birds and how they hatch, seeing what they will grow up to look like.
Nick Brooks, Centre Manager at WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre said: “It’s a fantastic event that brings a lot of smiles to both children and adults faces at WWT Martin Mere.”
He added: “It’s a fantastic opportunity to see these brilliant birds grow from tiny ducklings to full sized birds in our Duckling Nursery over the next 7 weeks.”
In addition to the Duckling Nursery at weekends, why not take to the water on our award winning canoe and boat safari for a relaxing boat tour of the centre or paddle your own way around the reedbeds. Watch our dedicated volunteers conduct our otter feeds at 11.30am and 2.30pm, see what creatures you can find pond dipping between 11am – 12.30pm and 1.30pm – 3pm as well as make crafts between 1pm to 4pm.
WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre is open every day from 9.30am to 6.30pm and parking is free of charge. Situated off the A59, it is signposted from the M61, M58 and M6. The Centre is also accessible via the Southport to Manchester and the Liverpool to Preston line by train from Burscough Rail Stations.
