Full Steam Ahead at Martin Mere
It's full steam ahead at WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre as we are hosting our popular indoor Model Train Show on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 January.
All the family will be entertained by local model train societies as they bring a vast array of layouts to entertain visitors in the warmth of the building. There will be over 60 model trains on display including a giant Lego train set and the fantastic Thomas the Tank Engine layout to allow children to drive the trains.
Centre Manager, Nick Brooks, said: “This model weekend has been very popular in the past and it is great to work with local clubs and societies. We have lots of exciting events planned for 2014 and we are hoping for another very good year.”
There will also be plenty to do outdoors as the winter migrants, over 1,000 Whooper Swans are fed on the Mere at 3pm and 3.30pm everyday as well as taking the opportunity to walk around the wildlife gardens, hand feed birds from all over the world, watch the otter feeds at 11.30am and 2.30pm and learn about the conservation work of WWT. To warm up after these activities you can sample the delights of our Mere Side Café.
Normal centre admission charges apply at the model train show and there is no extra charge to take part in the event.
WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre is open every day (except Christmas Day) from 9.30am to 4.30pm during winter months and parking is free of charge. Situated off the A59, it is signposted from the M61, M58 and M6. The Centre is also accessible via the Southport to Manchester and the Liverpool to Preston line by train from Burscough Rail Stations.
