Have a Splashing Time at Martin Mere
From model boats and award winning canoe safaris to guided boat tours and splashing around in the adventure play area, there’s fun for all the family at WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre next month.
On Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th April local model boat societies will be displaying over 100 model boats in the centre and outdoor pools between 10am and 4pm. Visitors can also paint a duck, design a pond and see how wooden boats are constructed.
Our award winning canoe safari and boat tour experience also opens for the summer on Saturday 5th April. Over 11,000 people took to the water last year watching wildlife, spotting dragonflies, listening for warblers and admiring the wild flowers whilst enjoying the peace and tranquility.
The self guided canoe safari has won the Best Visitor Experience category in the Lancashire and Blackpool Tourism Awards and offers a fun and safe way to explore the reedbed habitat, spotting water voles and reed buntings.
Centre Manager, Nick Brooks, said: “Since the canoe safari opened in 2011 we have had a huge number of people enjoy it. Children as young as 4 to adults up to the age of 85 have had a go at canoeing, it is one of the best experiences available at Martin Mere.”
The canoes can hold up to three people and the charge to use the safari is £6 per canoe for one hour. The attraction will be open every day until 31st October from 12pm to 4pm on term time weekdays, and 10.30am to 4pm at weekends and during school holidays.
The 30 minute guided boat tours take place every afternoon until the end of October half term and cost £3 per seat. Times of the tours will be available from the Visitor Services team when you arrive at Martin Mere.
WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre is a haven for a host of creatures such as otters, beavers, kingfishers, geese and swans.
