Model boat and train show at WWT Martin Mere

Its full steam ahead at WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre this month as we host our Indoor Model Boat and Train Show on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 January 2011.

All the family will be entertained by local model boat and train societies as they bring a vast array of layouts to entertain visitors in the warmth of the building as well as giving children the opportunity to make their own models out of recycled materials. There will be over 60 model boats, 6 giant train layouts, tanks and an 8ft aircraft carrier.

Centre Manager, Andy Wooldridge, said: “It is great to do events like this to ensure we are continually offering new experiences at Martin Mere, especially if we can work with local clubs and societies. We have lots of new activities planned in 2011 and we are hoping for another very good year.”

There will also be plenty to do outdoors as the winter migrants: 1900 Whooper Swans are fed on the Mere at 3pm and 3.30pm everyday as well as taking the opportunity to walk around the wildlife gardens, hand feed birds from all over the world, watch the otter feeds at 11.30am and 2.30pm and learn about the beavers. To warm up after these activities you can sample the delights of our brand new Mere Side Café that opened in December 2010.

Normal admission charges apply at the model boat and train show and there is no extra charge to take part in the event.
