Photography competition summer heat winners
The fourth and final heat of WWT Martin Mere’s photography competition has just finished. The photography competition has been ongoing for a year.
The summer heat was the final stage of the competition. The competition has five winners from the end of each season.
Martin Mere called on all nature lovers and photographers to submit their most spectacular images they had captured.
The competition consists of five categories Wetland Wildlife, Wetland Landscapes, Wildlife & people and the Junior Photographer of the year (under 18s). There was also a people choice category which received over 328 votes online.
All seasonal, regional heat winners will go forward to the national grand finale to be judged by a panel of photography experts and celebrities.
Our winners from WWT Martin Mere were;
From the People & Wildlife category was Annie Ganz who submitted this wonderful picture she called ‘Reading Class’. Annie said what inspired her to take this photograph was the illusion that the duckling were reading the plaque. This was Annie’s second visit to WWT Martin Mere. She enjoys coming to the centre as you can experience so many species of birds in such a concentrated area. Annie will be in with a chance of winning a holiday courtesy of Much Better Adventures.com.
Our Wetland Wildlife category winner was Paul Jarvis with his spectacular picture ‘Reflection’. Paul often visits WWT Martin Mere as he lives in the area and likes the fact there’s a lot to photograph at the wetland. This is Paul’s second win, as he also won the autumn heat.
Paul said he chose the image for the competition as “the reflection looked like a mirror, and the light was nice in the morning”. Paul will be in the running to win a three day birds of prey photography workshop in the Czech Republic, courtesy of Tatra photography.
Liz Gent won the Wetland Landscape with her picture ‘Reeds in the breeze’. Liz could win a 6 night nature photography workshop in Cumbria, courtesy of Lakeland photo holidays, plus a head to-toe outdoor clothing kit, courtesy of Regatta.
Our junior Photographer category was Chris Bromley who won with his fantastic picture of a Kingfisher which he named ‘Kingfisher’. Chris enjoys coming to Martin Mere as he likes the variety of things you can see. Chris was inspired to capture the image of the kingfisher as they are his favourite. Chris is now in the finals were the winner of his category will receive a 7 day family activity holiday in mid Wales, courtesy of Mount Severn.
Our people’s choice winner who received 328 votes on line was John Doherty from Northern Ireland. With his amazing picture called, ‘Avocet in flight’. John could win a week’s narrow boat holiday for four in the UK, to the value of £1000, courtesy of kate boats. All national category winners will also receive a subscription to Birdwatching magazine.
The grand prize is an all inclusive 12 day holiday to the Antarctica.
The competition is in association with canon and in celebration of the Scott Antarctic expedition centenary. The eye-catching photographs show some of Britain’s best wildlife and landscapes that can be seen at WWT’s nine wetland centres across the UK.
