Walks and Workshops at Martin Mere
Whether it’s watching, photographing or painting our feathered friends, at WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre there’s a series of special events available to fine-tune your skills.
See the reserve come to life for an exclusive dawn walk on Saturday 26th April starting at 5.30am and finishing with a full English breakfast in our cafe overlooking Swan Lake at 9am.
Join international award winning photographer John Fairclough and falconry team ‘Hawks R Us’ for a unique bird of prey photography workshop on Sunday 11th May.

On Friday 16th May join Andy Bunting from In Focus for a bird watching morning to develop your bird identification skills in the field and receive expert advice on using the tools of the trade i.e. guides, binoculars and telescopes.
The following day (17th May) Andy will be leading our popular photography workshop helping you understand some of the basics of photography and how they relate to your current camera, which will in turn allow you to improve your photographic results.
Award winning local artist and illustrator Tony Disley will show you how to draw and paint a detailed and realistic painting of a bird subject on Sunday 18th May with his drawing and painting workshop.
Places on the walks and workshops are limited and must be booked in advance. Call 01704 895181 (Monday to Friday) to secure your space. The dawn walk is £20 per person, bird watching mornings are £22 and the workshops range from £50 to £65 per person. For full details please visit the website.
WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre is a haven for a host of creatures such as otters, flamingos, beavers, kingfishers, geese and swans. Watch birds from the shelter of our comfortable hides, enjoy an expert walk or talk, or simply watch the world go by in our cafe overlooking our waterfowl collection – there’s plenty to do at a Wetland Centre all year round.
WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre is open every day (except Christmas Day) from 9.30am to 4.30pm during winter months and 9.30am to 6.00pm during summer months (from 30th March) and parking is free of charge. Situated off the A59, it is signposted from the M61, M58 and M6. The Centre is also accessible via the Southport to Manchester and the Liverpool to Preston line by train from Burscough Rail Stations.
