Volunteer with a group of teenagers before a canoe safari

WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre is looking for enthusiastic volunteers of all ages to come and join our education, visitor services and canoe safari team this Spring.

Volunteer Development Officer, Amy Hannah, said: “We now have over 180 volunteers at Martin Mere. Nationally, we have over 900 volunteers, we quite simply couldn’t function without them. Volunteering gives opportunities, our youngest 16 year olds volunteer to stand out on their university applications, whilst our mature volunteers can learn new skills and meet new friends. In fact our oldest volunteer has just turned 89 years old which shows it is never too late to come and volunteer at Martin Mere.”

The roles that the Centre specifically needs to recruit are volunteers to work with our education team to do weekend and holiday activities which could include duck hunts, pond dipping, family crafts and taking part in Downy Duckling Week; in addition volunteers are needed to help with the canoe safari attraction to join the team offering this award winning facility; and also to meet and greet visitors on our visitor services team.

For more information about volunteering call the centre on 01704 891220 during the week, email: info.martinmere@wwt.org.uk or go online to complete an application at: http://www.wwt.org.uk/support/volunteer-with-wwt/volunteering-opportunities/

WWT Martin Mere is open every day from 9.30am to 4.30pm and parking is free of charge. Situated off the A59, it is signposted from the M61, M58 and M6.  The Centre is also accessible via the Southport to Manchester and the Liverpool to Preston line by train from Burscough Rail Stations.  Visit the web site http://www.wwt.org.uk/martinmere/ to find out what’s on all year round at Martin Mere and the other eight centres.
