WWT Martin Mere wins Sustainable Tourism Award
WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre won the Sustainable Tourism Award at last night’s Marketing Lancashire Tourism Awards.
The award, presented by Wayne Hemingway at the event at Preston Guild Hall, was won for the following:
- Communication to our visitors about becoming more environmentally friendly through exhibitions, our eco-garden and planned events and activities
- Our green credentials through water usage, energy use, attracting wildlife and recycling and re-using materials
- The work we have undertaken in the community to promote travelling without cars to local attractions and opening up the public footpaths
Centre Manager, Andy Wooldridge, said: “This is the first time we have won this award so I am absolutely delighted. Winning these awards give everyone at the centre, staff and volunteers, a sense of pride and it is fantastic to know that all the work we have done to make Martin Mere more accessible in the community has resulted in us being recognised for this award.”
