1720 Whooper Swan

Highest count of the winter so far of Whooper Swan with 1720 birds on the reserve this morning. No snow so far. It is unusual for us to get any lying snow in this area.

Both Ross's and Bar-headed Goose hanging around with Mallard and Greylag respectively.

Woodcock seen in flight on the path from the overflow car park heading to the start of the Reedbed Walk. Twelve Oystercatcher along the back of the Mere. These birds start to come inland as winter moves into spring to inhabit breeding territories.

Marsh Harrier today, 6+ Common Buzzard, 2 Sparrowhawk and 2 Kestrel.
