60 species
Far more sensible weather wise today making for excellent visibility and general viewing. At any time it fairly easy to top 30 species in less than half a day on the reserve. Add a bit of knowledge and 40-50+ should be on the cards for a full day. Today 60+ have been recorded.
Nothing particularly uncommon seen, with most species getting a regularly mentioned in these updates.
The weather is in fact looking better for the next few days as the wind drops further so a good excuse to catch some classic winter birding.
The drake Green-winged Teal still present. Around 2000 Pink-footed Geese on and off the reserve. Great to see displaying Pintail, Wigeon and Eurasian Teal around the reserve.
Raptors recorded include Peregrine, Common Buzzard(s), Kestrel and Sparrowhawk. At least 2 Barn Owl morning and afternoon.
Lapwing numbers are 800+, with 60+ Ruff, Oystercatchers, Ringed Plovers and Black-tailed Godwits present.
Two Treecreeper near the Janet Kear Hide plus the usual finches, tits and Reed Bunting.
