A Blast of Winter

Any hopes of the first Sand Martin were dashed by the strong ENE wind blowing squally snow showers straight off Siberia!

A few Avocet must have changed their minds as the numbers reduced to 40 as the scrapes in front of the Ron Barker Hide froze over. Today looked the worst of it with the wind becoming lighter in the next few days.

Not packed with reports today but the few brave birders who pop in did tot up 50 + species around the reserve.

Further waders included ~ 80 Ruff, 4 Black-tailed Godwit, 2 Ringed Plover, 40+ Oystercatcher.

Brambling still around the Janet Kear Hide, Treecreeper and Great-spotted Woodpecker also there. Two Mistle Thrush feeding next to the in focus shop. A flock of 6+ Siskin by the Kingfisher Hide.

Raptors included 2 Peregrine, 4 Common Buzzard, 2 Kestrel and Sparrowhawk.
