A Quick update from the reserve

We had the pleasure of hosting the North West Bird Watching Festival this weekend, and as normal with a high number of birders around we got some great records. So let’s start off with something that we definitely were not expecting. Two summer migrants in the shape of a Swallow and a Wheater, both of which are here far later than they should be. But back to the norm, we had record numbers of European White-fronted Geese (27). These where showing well throughout the reserve and spent most of their time with the 4000 or so Pinkfeet who came in late in the evening.

We also had a great show from the birds of prey which included, Ringtailed Hen Harrier, Short-eared Owl, three Marsh Harriers, Peregrine, Common Buzzard, Kestrel and Sparrowhawk.  Now if that doesn’t get your birding juices flowing nothing will!!
