A taste of the Med' !

A pair of Mediterranean Gulls in full breeding plumage were on the Mere today. The birds were performing a slightly half-hearted courtship display - hopefully when the Black-headed Gulls start nesting (very soon now) they will join them and become our long-awaited first breeding record.

Lots of other birds around the reserve today including a Little Egret from the Harrier hide, 2 Kingfishers and a Raven from the United Utilities hide, and a Bewick's Swan on the Mere.

Atleast 80 Ruff were on the Mere, along with a few Black-tailed Godwits, 2 Redshanks, Oystercatchers and Common Snipe.

A Merlin, at least 7 Common Buzzards, a Barn Owl, Tawny Owl and at least one Marsh Harrier were present
