Adopt a Moorhen

Quiet in terms of new birds but some interesting behaviour, among the Black headed Gull colony on the Mere, one Gull has seemingly taken over a Moorhen nest and the Moorhen chick that was in it. It seems perfectly happy with looking after the chick but aggresively sees off the adult Moorhen whenever it comes back! How long before it gets eaten by it's new brothers and sisters?

Other sightings today, the 2 Ruff are still present, only 1 Black tailed Godwit seen today. The female Marsh Harrier is still in the area and up to 7 Common Buzzard and Kestrel. Good numbers of Black headed Gull chicks hatching daily. Good numbers of Avocets including some chicks to be seen.  Lots of breeding Redshank and Lapwing to be seen.

A female Bullfinch was at the Janet Kear feeding Station today, both Sedge Warbler and Common Whitethroat singing by UU hide and Great Spotted Woodpecker seen nearby.
