An excellent autumn for interesting geese

Five European White-fronted Geese with Pink-footed Geese were spotted yesterday morning with at least 3 Barnacle geese on the 14th .  It's shaping up to be an excellent autumn for interesting geese on the reserve.

Raptor sightings include 2 Peregrine, Merlin (juv), Marsh Harrier, 2 Sparrowhawk, 3 Common Buzzard and Kestrel with over 100 Tree Sparrows still showing around the reserve and at least one Willow Tit from the Janet Kear Hide.

A noticeable influx of Blackbirds over the past few days, with small groups tolerating one another whilst feeding on Hawthorn and shriveled Elderberry. Flocks of Fieldfare moving over the reserve too with some birds dropping in. Fewer Redwing so far this autumn.

Among the thousands of ducks on the Mere, the first Goldeneye of the autumn, a first year male.
