Bar-tailed Godwit

A juvenile Bar-tailed Godwit was a good start to the day, it appeared over the mere before settling down in front of Ron Barker hide. Other waders included upto 20 Ruff, 60 Snipe and 700 Lapwing.
The main feature of the day was the big increase in Pink-footed Goose numbers, from 2,000 in recent days to 6,000 plus in the area, all day long good numbers could be seen with many birds preening and bathing around the Mere most of the day.
A bit of visible migration was noticeable overhead this morning in the form of Meadow Pipits and some Wagtails including 2 Grey Wagtail. A pair of Raven were seen over the reserve and a Chiffchaff was calling and showing well by the picnic tables by In Focus shop.
A Merlin was seen from Ron Barker along with sev Common Buzzard and at least 2 Marsh Harrier, 2 Kestrel and 2 Sparrowhawk. The Kingfisher also put in an appearnce in front of the hide.
