Barnacle Goose and other birds and moth!

Perhaps as many as 30,000 Pink-footed Geese this morning in the roost. In among them and easy to find Barnacle Goose, first of the autumn here and a couple of leucistic/ partial leucistic Pink-footed Geese.

Given the very mild condition this morning it was less of a surprises to here of a sighting of Hummingbird Hawk-moth in the Sustainable Garden area inside the grounds. Also there a mixed flock containing 20 Long-tailed Tit, 3 Chiffchaff and Goldcrest, also a Jay calling near by. At least 15 Chiffchaff on site with a 6 seen near the Sewage Works.

Minimum of 3 Marsh Harrier, 4+ Common Buzzard, Sparrowhawk and Kestrel. Some movements of Skylark today.

At least 2 Kingfisher seen in front of the Ron Barker Hide and from the UU Hide.

Further news as the glass goes onto the front of the new Discovery Hide, the water on the Mere is being raised to the winter level (up 2.5 feet), producing a larger surface area for the forthcoming influx of Whooper Swan and wildfowl.
