A Bean Goose dropped in with Pinks-footed Geese around 12 am viewed from the Ron Barker Hide. Bean Geese can be difficult to assign to a race, although observers thought this bird showed characteristics of 'fabalis' which is the Taiga Bean Goose.

Speaking of identification conundrums, an adult Yellow-legged Gull was reported. The bird obviously looked a shade or two paler than nearby adult Lesser black-backed Gulls but no detail has been recorded of the birds primary (wing) pattern. It's not impossible that this is a returning individual which was seen on the reserve in 2011, so we will keep our eyes peeled!

Four Marsh Harrier, 2 Peregrine, 2 Common Buzzard, Kestrel and Sparrowhawk by midday.

Willow Tit from the Janet Kear Hide.
