The 2 Bewick's Swans seen late afternoon were the birds of the day, the species is getting harder and harder to see on site as the years go by. In the early days of Martin Mere Bewick's often outnumbered Whooper Swans, but in recent times a decline in the population and milder winters on the continent are seeing more birds spend the winter in mainland Europe. Finding a Bewick's Swan among 1700 Whooper Swans at the moment is also tricky!

Other news from today included the usual ringtail Hen Harrier (prob imm male), 4 Marsh Harrier, sev Common Buzzard, Sparrowhawk and Kestrel. Good numbers of Pink footed Geese were seen along with up to 60 feral Barnacle Geese. The Dunlin is still around from yesterday among the c60 Ruff and at the moment the spectacular flock of up to 4000 Lapwing.

The Willow Tit was again seen from Janet Kear and at least 2 Ravens were seen on the reserve.
