Hide closure: Sunday 9 November

No access to Ron Barker, Hale and Mere View Hides
Unfortunately, we have had a recent case of avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu, in our collection birds. To prevent further spread of the disease, we are putting in place some additional protection measures, which includes testing the birds in our duckery. To allow our teams the time and space to do this, we’ve temporarily closed this part of the wetland reserve and will reopen on Monday 10 November.

Bird News

As usual after hurricane force winds coming off the Irish Sea no coastal birds materialised. Actually a february storm isn't likely to produce many wind blown strays compared with an early autumn blow.

Common Buzzards were in action with 8 different birds counted, some distant. Marsh Harrier and Sparrowhawk also recorded.

Still 2 Avocet, 1500+ Lapwing, 30+ Oystercatcher, 2 Ringed Plover and 60+ Ruff.

Ross's Goose from the Swan Link Hide, unfortunately no Ross's Gull!

Brown Hare and Stoat seen from the Ron Barker Hide.
