Bird News

Slightly more sensible than the forecast suggested but still windy with the odd light shower. The Siberian Chiffchaff is still present seen low in the hedge row near the sewage works late afternoon but not vocal. Two Chiffchaff were also there plus a Goldcrest.

A late afternoon adult Kittiwake was a surprise and new for the year. Also present 2000+ Black-headed Gull roosting, 2 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 2 Great Black-backed Gull, Herring and Common Gull.

An influx of Avocet over night with 29 birds on the reserve. Other waders included 60+ Ruff ( a breeding plumage male still present), 7 Common Snipe, 2 Dunlin, 2 Curlew, 40+ Black-tailed Godwit, 50+ Oystercatcher, 2 Ringed Plover and 1000+ Lapwing.

Tawny Owl near the Kingfisher Hide. Three Common Buzzard and Kestrel today.

Just off the reserve a flock of 20+ Corn Bunting.
