Bird News

A couple of days to report as the phone lines were down (again) here yesterday. At least 3 different Med Gulls present intermittently on the Mere. A small movement of Common Gull also occurring.

Waders have included 56 Avocet, 33 Black-tailed Godwit, 20+ Ruff, 6 Ringed Plover, 11 Curlew, 6+ Redshank, 7 Common Snipe and 100+ Lapwing.

Raptors; 10+ Common Buzzard, 3 Sparrowhawk, 2 Kestrel and Marsh Harrier.

An influx of Chiffchaff with at least 6 birds singing around the reserve. White Wagtail yesterday, new for the year near the Sewage Works, no sign today but ~ 50 Pied present there and a few Meadow Pipit.

Around 70 Whooper Swan and 150 Pink-footed Geese.

On Sunday just off the reserve 80 Fieldfare still present.

The 'wild' credentials of the Ross's Goose took a blow when it followed it's Mallard friends onto Swan Lake (opposite the restaurant) yesterday. Still present this morning showing very well indeed, it flew back onto the Mere in the afternoon.
