Plenty of activity around the reserve as milder condition take hold. The Mere was ice free by the afternoon so no amusing crash landing ducks as of recent days..

As usual lots of raptors hunting around the reserve. Marsh Harrier are un-missible with at least 4 birds present, Peregrine this morning, 3+ Common Buzzard and 3 Sparrowhawk. Barn Owl late on.

Again over 1000 Whooper Swan thou no specific counts. Only small numbers of Pink-feet present during the day. Yesterday our Tufted Duck record was broken again with 264 birds in front of the Harrier Hide, although less today.

A noticeable return of Lapwing with ~1500 birds this afternoon with around 1000 Starling feeding with them in fields near the Ron Barker Hide.

The feeders are packed with Tree Sparrows, Reed Bunting and assorted finches and tits. The Willow Tit was again present from the Janet Kear Hide.

(Don't forget to watch Inside Out on BBC1 tonight at 7.30pm as there is a feature about Martin Mere on there.)
