Bird News

Some bird movements noted today, with numbers of Pied Wagtails passing through the reserve, along with a few Grey Wagtails. About 250 Cormorants were noted from the reserve, although very distantly - they would have been flying closer to the Ribble Estauary than Martin Mere !

Greylag numbers were over the 500 mark, and at least 100 Canada Geese were on site - the first Pink-footed Geese of the year were seen at WWT Caerlaverock today, so ours will be along any day soon (hopefully).

2 Ravens were seen in the area around the United Utilities hide.

Waders included a Little Ringed Plover, several Ruff, Black-tailed Godwits, and Snipe.

Marsh Harrier, Peregrine, Sparrowhawk and Kestrel were seen throughout the day, and a Kingfisher showed well from the Ron Barker hide.
