Bird News.

A good variety of small passerines seen today, with some of the less well birded areas of the reserve being put under greater scrutiny by people searching for the Firecrest which has been present on and off for several days.  At least 4 Siskins and 5 Redpolls, as well as Redwings, Fieldfares, Mistle Thrushes were seen in addition to the Coal, Blue, Great and Long-tailed tits which are usually present in the area.

2 Barn Owls, 2 Tawny Owls, 2 Marsh Harriers and 2 Sparrowhawks were seen regularly.

Waders included over 2,000 Lapwings, 15 Common Snipe, and at least 60 Ruff.

The Ross's Goose "of unknown origin" continues to impress on the Mere (wherever it may have come from, it's still a very smart little Goose !)
