Café kitchen closure

From 8–17 September, our café kitchen will be closed for refurbishment. During this time, our front-of-house will remain open, offering a selection of cakes and ice cream, sandwiches, and drinks. You will also be able to visit our kiosks by the play areas.

Bird News

A good selection of birds in less than ideal weather. Woodcock still 'performing' from the Janet Kear Hide. Plenty of finches and Reed Buntings around there too.

Adult European White-fronted Goose out on Woodend Marsh viewed from the United Utilities Hide. Also there a female Stonechat.

Waders included 500+ Lapwing returning as the weather has warmed and 11 Black-tailed Godwit. The Ruff stayed around during the cold snap with 50+ birds.

A good raptor day despite the wind and rain with male Hen Harrier, Merlin, 2 Peregrine, 2 Common Buzzard, Sparrowhawk and Kestrel.

Other birds to note included Little Egret on Sunley's Marsh, Rook (rare on the reserve), the 'tailless' Chiffchaff with Long-tailed Tits, 5+ Redwing and 3 Fieldfare.
