Bittern

Bird of the day goes to a Bittern flushed near the Reed Bed Walk which flew onto Woodend Marsh. Is this the same bird which was present in January or is it a bird which has wintered somewhere else and has just dropped in on it's journey home (to europe)?

Late on 11 Sand Martin flew North through the reserve, long over due.

A Blackcap singing on the Nature Trail is the first that many people have connected with. At least 6 Chiffchaff singing around the reserve.

A pair of breeding plumage Mediterranean Gull was seen from the Ron Barker Hide this morning. At least 10 Common Gull around today.

Waders included 20+ Ruff, one with full breeding plumage, 50+ Avocet, 20+ Black-tailed Godwit, 30+ Oystercatcher, 2 Ringed Plover and Curlew.

A Barn Owl was out hunting this morning from the Ron Barker Hide. At least 8 Common Buzzard taking advantage of the warm conditions, Kestrel and Sparrowhawk.

Water Rail(s) calling in front of the Harrier Hide, Little Grebes there too.

Corn Bunting singing near the car park entrance.

Osprey moving North on the coast again today.
