Classic conditions, easterlies at the end of April, came up trumps when a Black Tern flew in ~ 1.45pm, still present 6.40pm at least (viewed form the Reed Bed Walk).

New waders with 6 summer plumaged Dunlin, 2 Whimbrel, 50 Ruff with some also in cracking summer plumage, 100+ Avocet with around 37 pairs potentially nesting, 3 Curlew, Common Sandpiper, 20+ Black-tailed Godwit, 20 Oystercatcher, 6+ Ringed Plover, 20 Redshank and Common Snipes.

Raptor action included an imm Marsh Harrier targeting a nesting Mallard, lifting it off the nest and dropping it out of the way before returning to the nest to grab a bite to eat.

Just off the reserve, an Osprey flew (11.40) over Windmill Farm from the direction of the reserve, heading towards Holmeswood being mobbed by Buzzards, viewed from Curlew Lane. A Hobby was also seen going east from there.
