A first for the reserve in the form of  breeding Marsh Harrier, a pair have nested this year and currently have 2 chicks and one egg. The birds are best viewed from either Ron Barker or United Utilities Hide. Other raptors seen today were Common Buzzard, Kestrel and Sparrowhawk. At least one Green Sandpiper and a Black tailed Godwit were the best waders on offer today, but good numbers of Avocet and Lapwing are to be seen.

A Yellow Wagtail flew towards Woodend marsh (best viewed from UU hide) which has been the best area to look for the species on site this year. A singing Chiffchaff is still holding territory near the Swan Link Hide and upto 50 Swift were hawking low over the fields today.
