Chiffchaff

The Martin Mere year list is slowly developing. No real surprise that a Chiffchaff was hanging around the Sewage Works this morning, it's probably been present all winter.

Blustery from mid morning with the occasional shower moving through. Good numbers of Whooper Swan on the Mere with many hanging around the waste potatoes on Top Mere. Over 1000 Pink-footed Geese early on with small numbers coming and going throughout the day.

The usual raptors with 2 Marsh Harrier, Peregrine, 4+ Common Buzzard, 2 Kestrel and 2 Sparrowhawk. Also Barn and Tawny Owl.

Raven floating around. Plenty of carrion for these birds. Carrion Crow, Magpie and Jackdaw all present and yet Rook studiously avoids the reserve in favour of farmland close by.

The 2000+ Lapwing always provide an early warning system to alert the presence of Peregrine. A few Common Snipe about seen when flushed by Marsh Harriers, 2 Oystercatcher and 50+ Ruff.
