Common Scoter

A pair of Common Scoter spent yesterday on the Mere, but, not surprisingly, moved on overnight.

Still lots of wildfowl on the Mere though, with Whooper Swan, Shoveller, Pintail, Wigeon, Teal, Goldeneye (including 1 male) and Tufted Duck constantly on view. Waders on the Mere included 2 Little Ringed Plovers, Black-tailed Godwits, Ruff and Redshank.

A Barn Owl has been seen for the last couple of mornings at least, with Peregrine, Marsh Harrier, and Common Buzzard showing regularly. A Merlin was seen from the Ron Barker hide yesterday.

At least 3 Cetti's Warblers were heard along the Reedbed Walk today, from where a Green Woodpecker was seen flying along the edge of the reserve yesterday.

Other birds of interest around the reserve include Little Egret, Great Spotted Woodpecker and several singing Chiffchaffs.

Thanks to Phil Johnson for the picture !
