Curlew Sandpiper

The change in weather had the desired effect today, the rain forcing a few migrant waders down onto the reserve, the best being a breeding plumaged Curlew Sandpiper which was found early afternoon from Ron Barker hide with 2 Dunlin, a further group of 4 Dunlin were seen in the morning.

A flock of 18 migrant Ringed Plover dropped in with the onset of the rain joining 26 Black-tailed Godwit which were new birds. A single Little ringed Plover and 2 Ruff were the other waders of interest.

Other sightings today included 2 Mediterranean Gull (1st summers), a female Marsh Harrier, Raven again and a pair of Common Tern briefly. Single Whooper Swan and a Pink footed Goose were also seen along with a variety of duck which included Gadwall, Shoveler, Pintail and Pochard. Both Common Whitethroat and Blackcap can be seen and heard on site at the moment.
