Early Bird Walk

A 5.30am start till the big breakfast at 9am. Thankfully no rain and the sun peaked out briefly.

We recorded 50 species of bird including singing Chiffchaff, Willow Warbler, Blackcap, Whitethroat, Reed and Sedge Warbler with the star bird being a reeling Grasshopper Warbler on view on willow scrub 100m past the last viewing platform on Pat's Reed Bed Walk.

A second summer male Marsh Harrier showed well here too. Corn Buntings and Wheatears also along this route. A singing Lesser Redpoll was opposite the Tun Village within the grounds.

Male Yellow Wagtail and Little Ringed Plover from the Viewing Platforms.

The rarest(!) bird of the morning goes to a male House Sparrow perched on the perimeter fence opposite the Sewage Works. The last time we recorded House Sparrow on the reserve was 2010.

The next Early Bird Walk is on Saturday 22nd June.
