European White-fronted Goose

The European White-fronted Goose was peforming well on and around the Mere today, mainly on it's own but occasionally with Greylags or Pink-feet. Upto 3000 Pink-footed Geese were using the reserve with many flocks coming and going throughout the day.

The daily swan feeds afford the chance to watch upto 1500 Whooper Swan at close quarters, a sight not to be missed! Our regular family of 3 Peregrines were showing well today and co-operatively hunting as a group which was rewarded with yet another male Teal for dinner!

At least 25 Ruff are on the reserve with more in the wider area, late news for yesterday was a group of 11 Black-tailed Godwit which have been scarce of late, even rarer on site was a Little Egret on Xmas Eve, always a good record and even better in winter. Good numbers of Cormorant using the Mere at the moment with a count of 18 today.
