Firecrest

Bird of the day must go to the Firecrest found near the Ron Barker hide mid afternoon, enabling a few people to add this little stunner to their lists, with any luck

it may winter on site. Other sightings of interest included a drake Goosander from Ron Barker in the morning, a rare bird on site, with few records each year.

A male Brambling was at the Janet Kear feeding station, with large numbers of this species on the east coast in the last week hopefully we will see more of this species on site this winter. The usual family party of 3 Peregrines performed well in the morning at the far side of the Mere in the stunning early morning light. Other raptors seen were a single fem/imm Merlin and several Common Buzzard.

Several thousand Pink footed Geese were present on and off throughout the day along with 2 Barnacle Geese but no reports of any other geese today. At least 300 Whooper Swan are present with many more set to arrive during the next few weeks.

Other wildlife seen today included a Common Darter and Comma Butterfly
