Hide closure: Sunday 9 November

No access to Ron Barker, Hale and Mere View Hides
Unfortunately, we have had a recent case of avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu, in our collection birds. To prevent further spread of the disease, we are putting in place some additional protection measures, which includes testing the birds in our duckery. To allow our teams the time and space to do this, we’ve temporarily closed this part of the wetland reserve and will reopen on Monday 10 November.

Close alert

Firecrest still present

The Firecrest was seen again inside the collection area this afternoon, also 3-4 Goldcrest, Coal Tit and Long-tailed Tit. A pair of Bullfinch were also seen here today.

A pair of Goldeneye were on the Mere and a Barn Owl was out hunting in the windmill farm area from Ron Barker Hide. Up to 40 Fieldfare with a few Redwing were near the Poplars along the edge of the reserve.

Signs of the mild weather were an Oystercatcher on the Mere and a Moorhen apparently sitting on a nest in the collection!
