Golden Plover

Seven Golden Plover new for the year with Lapwing at the back of the Mere late afternoon. These birds have probably been displaced by recent snow up on the Pennines. When the reserve opened in the mid 1970's large flocks of Golden Plover were regular in the autumn and winter. Now we are lucky to get a handful.

Today's raptors included Marsh Harrier, Peregrine, 2 Kestrel, Sparrowhawk and 5+ Common Buzzard.

Last years Ross's Goose has put in an appearance in front of the Swan Link Hide. This bird has spent some time at Marshside this winter. Did it fly back to North America late spring? Unlikely.
