Goldeneye

All 3 Peregrines (2 ad & juv male) performed well today, with all 3 spending most of the morning sat on fenceposts at the back of the Mere. At least 1 Marsh Harrier was seen along with the usual Common Buzzards and Sparrowhawk.

The 1000+ Whooper Swans looked stunning in the morning and evening light and with so many birds feeding in fields and in the mud near Raines Hide many are looking black billed or showing Bewick's like bill patterns at times! We still haven't had a Bewick's this winter so far, but a good spell of wintery weather could push some onto the reserve.

A pair of Goldeneye on the Mere this afternoon were new today.
