Green-winged Teal and more arrivals

A drake Green-winged Teal ( a female would be a tough call..) was found today during a count. The Green-winged Teal is a North American vagrant which turns up annually at Martin Mere. With 5,300 Eurasian Teal on the reserve it's quite possible that another could be present.

An influx in recent days has brought the Whooper Swan numbers to 1,380. Again around 15,000 Pink-footed Geese, also present a European White-front. Fifty five Shoveler today.

Waders included 1,200 Lapwing, 60 Ruff and yesterday 2 Redshank.

Winter thrushes were around with 60 Fieldfare and 20 Redwing. At least 3 Goldcrest in a roving tit flock.

The 'usual' raptors with 3 Peregrine showing well, Marsh Harrier, 2 Common Buzzard, Sparrowhawk and Kestrel.
