Hen Harrier again

A great day to be out and about and the forecast looks good for the week ahead. Locally one or two Sand Martin have been seen as well as Wheatear and Swallow. In fact a Chiffchaff along the Nature Trail is probably a new in migrant.

Alternatively the Whooper Swans are on the move North with just c400 on the reserve early this morning. It wouldn't be a surprise if many more left during this spell of high pressure.

Raptors making the most of the fine conditions included the adult male Hen Harrier, Peregrine, 14 Common Buzzard (most distant) and Kestrel. Barn Owl from the Ron Barker Hide.

At least one Siberian Chiffchaff and a couple of Common Chiffchaff by the Sewage Works. Call in at the in focus shop for directions.

Plenty of waders with 200 Lapwing, 102 Avocet, 70+ Ruff, 50+ Oystercatcher, 20+ Black-tailed Godwit, 10+ Common Snipe, 10+ Curlew, 5 Redshank and 2 Ringed Plover.

Three Mediterranean Gull and an influx of 38 Common Gull today. The Black-headed Gull roost is over 3000 birds. Also present a pair of Great Black-backed Gull, and few Lesser Black-backed Gull.

Off Marsh Moss Lane 20+ Corn Bunting and Grey Partridge.

The first Brimstone Butterflies today, also Buff-tailed Bumblebee, Small Tortoiseshell and Peacock Butterflies.
