Low cloud and the occasional shower provided excellent views of Common Swift (~100) hunting low over the reserve. Within the next four weeks the majority of local breeding birds will have departed for Africa. An influx of Common Snipe today with a flock of 12 birds. Other waders included 100 Black-tailed Godwit, 5 Avocet, 2 Ringed Plover, Ruff and Green Sandpiper.

A Hobby was seen briefly over the reed bed from the Harrier Hide hunting Hirundine or possibly Dragonfly as a Southern Hawker was also seen today. Three Marsh Harrier throughout the day, Sparrowhawk, 2 Common Buzzard and 3 Kestrel, one of the later was seen to catch a Brown Rat.

A Chiifchaff was feeding by the in focus shop. Notable that the breeding Blackbirds are doing well this year when many species are suffering. The wet soft ground being ideal for finding worms.
