Kingfishers

July can be a quiet month if you just concentrate on 'rare birds', however there is plenty to see around the reserve with 60+ species of bird possible and as we go into summer plenty of dragon/damselfly and butterflies on the wing. Waders are also on the move south so we can expect one or two extra birds dropping in.

Two possibly 3 Kingfisher today with 2 together from the Ron Barker Hide and another seen on the pool in front of the Janet Kear Hide.

Now wader counts as such but 20+ Black-tailed Godwit, 20+ Avocet, 100+ Lapwing, Redshank, Little Ringed Plover, Oystercatcher.

Five Common Tern including the 3 fledged young.

Butterflies on the wing included Small Copper and Small Tortoiseshell. Broad-bodied Chasers from the United Utilities Hide.
