As milder weather takes hold we see further changes of birds present around the reserve. Today an obvious influx of waders including, 10 Oystercatcher, 4 Ringed Plover, 4 Black-tailed Godwit, Curlew and Dunlin. Again 1500+ Lapwing and 90+ Ruff still.

A near adult winter plumaged Kittiwake (Europe's only onomatopoeic gull..) was present briefly on the Mere this morning with Black-headed Gulls. Although very much a coastal gull they are almost annually recorded on the reserve. This bird brings our year list onto 102 species.

A good raptor day with ringtailed Hen Harrier, 3 Marsh Harrier, 6 Common Buzzard, 2 Peregrine, 2 Sparrowhawk and Kestrel.

Great to hear Skylark singing on the reserve this morning. Other records today included, Water Rail, Raven and Fieldfare.
