Lastest Sightings

A couple of frosty starts recently and a wintery shower today and you know it's time to dig out those thermals if you intend to spend anytime out in the hides.

Good Whooper Swan numbers, always a spectacular sight, over 1000 birds present. Small numbers of Pink-footed Geese although of late some groups have been in during the day. At this time of year the Pink-footed Geese can easily hold rarer geese among them including Greenland White-front, European White-front and Bean Geese.

Again, increasing(?) numbers of Teal, Wigeon, Pintail and Shelduck.

A Water Rail showed well along the Nature Trail between the Gladstone and Janet Kear Hides. The feeding stations are worth a look with perhaps a chance of the winters first Brambling. Certainly more Reed Bunting visiting the feeders. Most winter Woodcock have been seen towards the back of the area from the Janet Kear Hide.

Just 3 species of raptor reported today 4+ Common Buzzard, 2 Sparrowhawk and Kestrel.

At least 50 Ruff mostly around the Mere, 800+ Lapwing, a few Common Snipe and Black-tailed Godwit.
